March 2016 In Review

Hello lovelies!

Wait, it’s April? You mean March is over?! Wow this year is really flying! So March kind of failed as a blogging month and getting back on track. As I mentioned in one of my more recent posts, grad school took over my life and then I picked up a new part-time job at a children’s bookshop. I did read a decent amount, so now all I have to do is catch up on my reviews 🙂 I have all the posts started for everything I’ve read so far this year, so I think I’m on a good track to getting them finished and posting. Once I’ve done that, I really need to catch up on my cross-posting! Additionally, I’m hoping to reconnect with everyone on Twitter–be more active and in-tuned to this social platform (you can follow me here!)–as well as dedicated Sundays (and sporadically throughout the week) to blog hopping & commenting.

With that said, please read on for my March recap 🙂

March Reads

Hush by Jacqueline Woodson
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
El Deafo by Cece Bell; illus. by David Lasky
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes
Flying Too High (Phryne Fisher Mysteries #2) by Kerry Greenwood
Breaking Stalin’s Nose by Eugene Yelchin
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman

I’m still sort of reading Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay. I started it back in February for my online book club, but I’ve been struggling through it. While I love her points and her writing style, she drops a lot of movie/book spoilers and the books seems more memoir-ish versus essays. However, I’m still holding on to reading through it! I also started Thief of Lies this month, but have not finished it yet. This one started off okay with my interest, but for some reason I haven’t picked it up to keep reading it just yet. Hopefully I’ll have it finished in April 🙂

As I mentioned above, this was a rough month blogging wise so not as many posts when up as I would have liked. Hoping to change that up this month! 🙂

March Hauls

So just like last month, I decided to do my haul via my new(ish) YouTube channel. I didn’t buy as many book as last month, but it’s still a lot more than I should be buying. I’m way past knee deep in TBRs now haha 😂! So I’m probably going on a book buying ban. Let me know if you like this type of content and I’ll continue to add them in each round up!  Also let me know what books you’ve picked up this past month!!

March Events

This month I was only able to attend one in-person book club meeting as both meetings were scheduled on the same day 🙁 However, it was so fun to meet up with some awesome book lovers in my city. I’m already planning on attending both meetings this month (as they’re both on different days this time! yey!). Also, I was able to tune in to my live-streaming book club meeting for my online book club. We read The Girl on the Train for March and we get to read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before for April! I’m so excited since I haven’t read this one yet. I’m really enjoying book clubs because it gives me a great outlet for discussing books. I LOVE chatting with all of you on all the books we’ve been reading, but I really also love the in-person meet up and discuss experience as well 🙂

So as far as March goes, I haven’t done too much. I did attend the one book signing for Thief of Lies as linked above. You can read all about that night here. Outside of that I’ve mainly just been doing school related things. I went to a few panels that my school was hosting on librarianship. Also, for my one class I went on two site visits! One to the Perkins School for the Blind Library and one to the Earl Center for Learning and Innovation at Wheelock College.  Both were such great experiences and so eye-opening & informative! I learned so much about the blind community and what resources are available to assist them. I do have a distant family member who is blind, but I never have the opportunity to speak with him. Additionally, both these visits really allowed me to get a better understanding of how far technology has come and how I can better assist patrons who are blind or visual impaired. I feel so lucky to have met the wonderful speakers that I did and am so thankful to them for imparting their knowledge and experiences. I hope that I can now better serve any patron who walks in to my future library! Also, Android you’d best get on your accessibility options, because Apple has you sooo beat on that front. The one time that I actually appreciate Siri!

I had a chance to explore the Perkins School’s small little museum while I was there. I grabbed a few pics 😊

Other than that, things have been all about school assignments and readings as well as my new part-time job at the a Children’s Bookshop. I’m so lucky to have been given the opportunity to work here. I’m learning a lot about children’s materials and reader’s advisory even though it’s not technically a library 😉 Also, I’m hoping for some more warmer weather in the coming month as I want to explore more. I’m also hoping to do a sort of food tour through the city–I have some cafes in mind, but let me know what restaurants to check out if you’re in/from the Boston area! PLUS, I’m thinking of doing a bookstore round up/visit of the bookstores in the area! 🙂 So many ideas and plans for the coming months, I hope you stay tuned!

Let me know how your March has gone! If you have any wrap-up posts, please leave them below! I love seeing what everyone else has done each month! Also SHOUT-OUT to all my #LoveAThon bloggers/friends who I’m still so happy I met and who I’m in desperate need of catching up with! I promise April will be the month of all months haha 🙂

Happy Reading!
