#StoryCrush Tour and Catch Up

Hey everyone!

Sorry I’ve been MIA! Life got pretty hectic recently, but I’m making a promise to update more frequently from here on out 🙂

So just to catch you up, I was able to attend a Story Crush Tour event a couple of weeks or so ago and met 5 wonderful and adorable authors. They were all so sweet and had some great advise to share.

The event took place at a Barnes and Noble not too far from me. It was great to grab some Starbucks and chill. I didn’t feel out of place or pressured to be anything. I could just relax and enjoy listening to the authors talk about their books and writing.

I also met some awesome bookish people: Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner and The Broke and the Bookish and Jules from JuliaGraceArts. Jules and I talked a lot since we were the first ones there 🙂 Jaime live tweeted the entire event so if you want some more details about the night definitely check out her twitter feed or #storycrush.

The authors answered some prompted questions and then left the time open for Q&A before they signed everything.

The authors who attended were (click the photos to find out more about the books below):

How to Love by Kate CotugnoMaybe One Day by Melissa KantorPanic by Lauren OliverThe Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schnder

Faking Normal by Courtney Stevens

The authors offered insight into their works, their writing process and their inspiration/research. Melissa Kantor mentioned that she talked with a young girl who went through a similar ballet situation while gathering information for her book Maybe One Day. Talking about Faking Normal, Courtney Stevens mentioned how siblings shape a character just as our siblings shape us. Robyn Schneider pointed out one of her favorite moments in her novel The Beginning of Everything–where Ezra experiences the silence during the silent disco flash mob. Katie Cotugno loves love and one of her favorite scenes from her novel, How to Love, was when Reena and Sawyer first kiss outside of the ice cream shop. During the open Q & A, Lauren Oliver was just one of the authors to answer the “advice on writing / being a writer” question. Oliver mentioned that it’s important to know that there are going to be ups and downs during your writing journey, but, like her, you do it [write] because you need to do it.

The night was definitely one of the more enjoyable things I’ve done this year. Being surrounded by book lovers and writers always puts me in a good mood.

After the talk and open Q & A, we were all allowed to line up for the signings 🙂 I’m just an awkward person, so I did my best to chitchat with them while getting my books signed. But I’ve always been a better writer than small talker 😉

Here are some photos from the night!
